Acronym for the popular editor, which is really Editng MACroS. It's a real pain to use, requring users to press several modifier keys, prompting many people to call it Escape Metal Alt Control Shift. It's also a real resource hog, causing yet others to call it Eight Megabytes And Continuously Swapping. Of course, that was back when 8 MB of RAM was a lot.
