Here it is, the long-awaited ISCA BBS client! Here's what you need to know: 1) I (the author of this client, Serendipity on the ISCA BBS) will not support this client in any way, shape or form, and will not respond to requests from people wanting help in compiling, porting, hacking, modifying, fixing, using, etc. this client. I do not have that kind of time. As it is it provides a lot of useful functionality and works on a fairly large number of machines, if it does not do what you want or does not run on the kind of machines you have access to, I'm sorry, but I can't help you. 2) This client is useless without a machine running VMS or Unix connected to the Internet. If you are running Unix on your PC at home you'll need SLIP, PPP, or some other form of software that will put your machine on the Internet. The exception to this is if you are running the program 'term'. See the INSTALL.term file for more. 3) This software is distributed under the terms of the GNU Software License. Copies of that license are available at the FSF's main FTP site, prep.ai.mit.edu. 4) For instructions on how to compile and install this software, see the file called INSTALL.unix for Unix systems, INSTALL.vms for VMS systems, or INSTALL.term for term. 5) Once you have the client compiled and installed, read the helpfile called Client on the BBS, which gives information on the various helpfiles available detailing how to use all the client features. You can, however, just run the client in place of telnet and have everything work exactly the same way it used using telnet. 6) This release of the client includes messages after your friends names on the friends list. Messages can be edited on line. It so far only works on Unix systems, if you know anybody who know how to program on VMS, let me know. Problems and comments can be mailed to me Dave Bailey dabailey@iastate.edu Isoroku 7) This release of the client includes Ansi Detection, Queue Detection, Autologin, Autoansi, Autoreminder, displaying of the Client configuration option in the BBS configuration menu, Totally new Client configuration menus including an option to cancel changes made to your .bbsrc file, and from the command line, a 'help' option, and a 'config' option that lets you edit the Client configuration offline. Ansi detection and Queue Detection are hardcoded and can't be toggled. Autologin can be toggled within the client configuration menu. Autoansi allows you to have the prompt for whether or not you have Ansi to be answered automatically upon login. This can be disabled, and defaults to being disabled, in the Client configuration menu. Autoreminder is the same as Autoansi except that it automatically answers the reminder prompt for you when you login. Autoansi can be forced on the commandline (ansi(f), noansi(f), askansi(f)). Even though I have made changes to the VMS version files, it has not been tested with anything other than a Sun4 and a AIX system. Problems and comments about the stated features in this paragraph, or features you'd like changed or added can be Emailed to me. I'm looking for ANY little modifications that others have made. Aaron Yourk ayourk@nyx.cs.du.edu Ayourk 8) The next release, thanks to Qugh, will contain (Quoting Qugh): 1) Programmable hotkey that will reformat your working X message or profile [useful for those of us that have X's set to arrive immediately] 2) X message reply mode--allows you to reply to anyone who has sent you an X without typing their name... It's kinda neat when it works. :) 3) When you are typing a name, pressing will check your friends list and complete the name with the first match so far. ex: if PanaSonic was on my friends list and I typed and then gave Pan for the name, it would complete it for me, similar to unix file completion. [Ayourk Side note: I plan on making this display the series of names that match in a wide format and then sending out a beep. Also, I plan on making this as configurable as possible.] Also planned: Allow editing the current friends info when going to edit info on a user from the Friends list menu. Having a note saying you don't have any friends on if you don't have any friends on rather than just remaking the current prompt. Color Scemeing: Change how the colors appear. You would only be able to redefine the colors, not the areas that the colors appear. You would get to define how Bright Red looks, and any other color. Also, I plan on having a "Return to Defaults" menu option in case there are any screw ups.
